After years of visiting archaeological sites, conducting academic research on symbols, and examining the rituals and beliefs in various Jewish communities, Tal Garmiza noticed that the academic study of mythical and biblical women is much richer than the presence of those women in official writings. Since then, she has sought to explore and deepen her research, both academic and artistic, into mythological women, those women who once held a rightful place in cultural heritage, and over the years have been pushed aside or blatantly erased.
“Leah Seeks Redemption” is a significant and central pillar in the large-scale research project of the poet, creator, and symbol researcher Tal Garmiza, and it presents the fruit of a journey. The exploration within it seeks to ask questions about a past that defines a present, much of which is hidden or has been concealed from us. The book is a point of connection between a woman in the twenty-first century and the foundation of her intellectual culture, which has been shaped over thousands of years.
If my whole life
is an ever changing dynamics-
movement after movement after movement,
a spiral energy that pushes forward;
Maybe you can be
the solid ground to guide me
in the flowing water that surrounds me
and you will be
a solid anchor
to save me in a wild sea.
If everything exists
only in this moment
and everyone is trying to hold on,
at least we will hold on to each other.
We will walk in unknown paths-
I will navigate
through the misleading desert
and you will be our light in the darkness.
You will stand still when needed
and I will do the same if you ask me.
If a sandstorm might come our way-
you will hold me
and carry me home
and the storm will be gone.
